Issue #23

Welcome to The Dark Times, The Dark Side Of The Lune newsletter.

The news letter is mainly designed to keep you up to date with what's happening at The Dark Side Of The Lune and Rock-It To the Lune but will include updates on other events on the alternative scene in and around Lancaster.

Following feed back from the comment sheets at last Dark Side of the Lune and various web sites we have already made some changes and these were in place at Rock It last Saturday night.

Sound System

The problem with the bass distortion was due to old damaged speakers that are part of the CUBA in house system. So we are now using our own system as used at the Phoenix with the volume turned down to compensate for the low ceiling..

Lighting

The club system is very bright so we are again using our own lighting and this created a much darker and more atmospheric dance floor at Rock It. At the Phoenix we used 160 watts of UV black lights. In response to your requests we have increased this to 800 watts by using 2 black light cannons. We hope that this does the job, if not we will add more

We have had a couple of very positive meetings with the management of CUBA who are 100% behind us in making our events and CUBA the best alternative nights and venue in the area and we have agreed the following:

Seating & Toilets

From the next Dark Side of the Lune we will open up the back area to provide more seating and tables and use of our own toilets so it will no longer be necessary to share with the public in the cocktail bar. We will still use the same entrance on Mary Street. Hopefully we will also be able to manage to put a few more seats and tables around the dance floor

Bar

The bar we used last time will be closed and will create a mini dance floor in that area. We will use the larger bar in the back area appropriately staffed. Requests for particular types of drinks are in place and at Rock It Jaigermeister / Bombs were on sale at the same price as the Phoenix. We are providing the club with a list of requests for drinks to include Newcastle Brown, Hobgoblin (if they can do it at reasonable prices) Crabbies ginger ale, a selection of J20's and other bottled beers.

Unfortunately it is not feasible to have draught beers at this stage as our demand is unlikely to turn over sufficient quantity to make it viable and we fully understand and accept the clubs reasons for this.

Strange Smells

We received a number of comments regarding unpleasant smells in the club and when we were setting Rock It up on Saturday cleaners where in giving the place a good once over. It probably still needs a good deep clean but it was much better on Saturday night

Times

From July the new times will be 9.00pm to 2.00am with admission at £3.00 before 11.00pm and £4.00 after.

Hopefully this will put us back where we want to be but please keep telling us what you want and what we can do better.
